I specialise in the rehabilitation and management of adults with neurological and orthopaedic injuries including those of a severe and complex nature. Your clients will receive a comprehensive assessment which will identify the physiotherapy input they require to give them the best chance of returning to their pre accident level of mobility and function. Physiotherapy input will consist of a variety of evidence based treatment approaches and will involve sessions with the physiotherapist and a home physiotherapy programme to carry out with support from carers if necessary. I can also provide training to carers in areas such as respiratory and postural care, and moving and handling.
Your clients who present with severe and complex disabilities are at high risk of developing contractures and changes in body shape without an appropriate 24 hour postural care plan in place. This can lead to problems such as pain, increased risk of pressure sores, increased risk of respiratory infections and difficulty achieving a comfortable and functional sitting posture. As part of my service I can carry out assessment and advise on your clients individualised postural care plan and the equipment they require. This may include a wheelchair, seating, sleep system and standing frame. In addition to carrying out assessment for equipment for postural care I can also assist your clients to identify and purchase other specialist equipment such as walking frames, transport, beds, bathing and toileting equipment and moving and handling equipment.
I am a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). I am also registered with the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) update Services. Since qualifying in 1987 I have gained extensive experience in a wide range of specialities including orthopaedics, musculoskeletal, respiratory, neurology, and learning disabilities. I try to maintain a high standard of knowledge and skills within the clinical areas I work through self-directed study and attendance at courses. For example I have attended numerous courses to develop my skills in posture management and have a post graduate certificate in Posture Management for People with Complex Physical Disabilities. I have also attended several courses on the Bobath Concept which is one of the leading approaches to neurological rehabilitation.
